Nahanni Rous has been creating custom chuppot (Jewish wedding canopies) since 2004. Using textile surface design methods including batik, silk-screen, and stitching, and in consultation with the wedding couple, Nahanni crafts a unique chuppah which reflects the couple's personalities and shared experience, their community, and their notions of home. Each chuppah becomes an heirloom and a special part of the couple's home. Nahanni employs different methods depending on the couple's ideas, including designing original textiles, gathering fabrics from the couple's family and friends, or incorporating a cherished piece of cloth.
