Minna and Sebastian's Maple Leaf Chuppah

In this chuppah, the wedding canopy becomes a canopy of leaves, sheltering the couple in this beatiful setting at the edge of Narraganset Bay. The chuppah poles are stripped maple saplings from the groom's family's land, cut by the groom's father. The chuppah was created using batik on silk. Ringing the canopy on a narrow awning is a joyful poem by e. e. cummings, which begins,

"i thank you god for most this amazing day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees... and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything which is natural which is infinite which is yes"

"Our chuppah gave our ceremony magical splendor, and not only because it was created by one of our best friends! To be standing under a beautiful cloth made especially for us, for that moment, with the daylight filtering down through the batiked maple leaves, and e. e. cummings' poem dancing around us, gave us such comfort and inspiration. Only Nahanni's inventive hand and imagination could have made a piece of cloth come alive with such meaning." --Minna and Sebastian
